Pen & Ink Drawing
Arlington, WA
I enjoy the subtle changes in blending colors. This is really a challenge when working with only black ink. I use a technique called stippling where gradients of small dots denote texture and shadow. It is a slow process and I've modified it to include line work, sometimes with colored ink washes or colored pencils. Each of my drawings takes anywhere from a month to two months to complete, but it leaves me with a feeling of accomplishment and peace. I've not only created something that is now part of me, I've created something I want to share with others—it's all about the Art. My work is very detailed, and I hope folks realize how much goes into each drawing…as I can only sit for a certain amount of time before physical pain overwhelms me and I have to change positions. Creativity is the most important freedom of all. I am very thankful that even though I can draw for only 45 to 60 minutes at a time, I can express myself and not feel pain for that slice of time! Each picture I draw has a personal story behind it and I provide that story to whoever purchases my work. My hope is that I can inspire others to look beyond their own disability (whatever that may be) and be able to chase their dreams. Email
