Darlene Gentry Lucas
Watercolor Painting
Edmonds, WA
Darlene Lucas is a full time professional artist who works from her studio in Edmonds. To express her ideas, she primarily uses watercolor. Its transparency allows her to layer, overlap and weave color. She layers various rice and handmade papers to develop textures and create movement from transparent to opaque. Those techniques support the interest she has with layers of meaning. She interprets scent and sound, sight and touch weaving tints and tones together in a dance of matter and energy. Darlene has been an artist and art teacher since her graduation from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Her graduate work was at Michigan State University with an emphasis in Art History and Museum Practices. Darlene has also studied with nationally known watercolor artists Don Andrews, Frank Webb, Jeanne Dobie and Doug Walton. She has taught art for 35 years in Florida, Germany, Michigan, Texas and Washington Darlene’s giclee prints are produced by a collaboration of Francis and Darlene in their studio. Email
