Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico the artist has lived in the Pacific Northwest for twenty five years. Self-taught she works in oil, soft pastel and watercolor. Helen remembers drawing before starting school and has always had a clear feeling from early on that she wanted to paint. Her painting style is representational and approach to painting traditional. When she was a teenager she would copy paintings of the Masters from books she got at the library.

Currently she enjoys depicting landscapes, seascapes, flower portraits, still life’s and is fascinated with the human figure. Helen attributes her rich use of color to her Latin heritage. She finds color to be an exciting means of self expression. She works alone most of the time but likes working with others en plein air and the life drawing sessions she attends weekly. Her hope is that people will feel and see some thing beautiful when they view her work, there is enough ugliness in the world.
