Fused Glass Mosaic Basics: Plates, Plates and More Plates – Janet Foley

Develop your own unique and colorful fused glass designs in this introductory class. Use pre-cut, brilliantly colored glass elements to integrate design and texture. Students will complete two glass plates, having the choice of several different shapes. Glass will be fired outside of class and will be ready for pick up 2 weeks later. Supplies and tools are provided.

Supply and firing fee: $40 payable to instructor at class.

Artful Felted Beads – Stacy Hamm

Create your own unique wool felted beads and then embellish them using several beading and wire wrapping techniques learned in class. Options are limitless to create one of a kind beads to use in necklaces, earrings, and other creative applications. See samples at the Arts Council.

Altered Books – Aletha Riter

Make your own personal, themed altered book by recycling an old or new book into a work of art. Altered books can be painted, cut, folded, added to, and collaged in, rubber stamped or otherwise adorned. Books, glue, brushes, and paper supplied.

The Golden Acrylic Lecture/Demo – Barbara DePirro

This is a two hour educational presentation on acrylic paints, gels and mediums: an advanced technical explanation of acrylics and their inherent possibilities. Learn how to use different products to create surfaces for textiles, airbrushing, monoprints, murals, sculptures, book making, oil painting, watercolors, etc. Students will receive a free packet of literature and samples.

In this fun and skill-packed class you will learn how to paint beautiful European florals and make your painting “pop” off the background! Learn basics of design, surface preparation and finish. Color Theory and the Principles and Elements of Design – Deon Matzen

This is an eight week comprehensive course in color theory and design. Come away with an understanding of color schemes, shades, tones, values, intensities, and much more. Each student will create a workbook/reference book for your work as you progress through your medium.

Hypertufa – Dena Votaw

Hypertufa is a lightweight concrete mix that offers garden solutions for specialty plants and makes a wonderful decoration. In this two day class students will make a container that can be either plain or embellished with texture, tile, wire, lettering, etc. Mixes, forms, texturing and planting will all discussed.

Faux Rock Making – Dena Votaw

In this two day class you will design and construct a large landscape rock for your garden. The hollow construction design will allow you to create crags, dips, a fountain, a birdbath, or the rock you have always wanted in that special area in your yard and you’ll be able to move it around. Students should bring ideas for their ideal rock and a thick pair of leather gloves. (A pair of aviator shears for cutting metal is a plus if you have them, but not required.)

Basic Tile Making – Colleen Dunlap

In this six week class you will create your own beautiful tile. Students will make a mold and learn two techniques for making tile from clay. Create your own original design, flat or sculpted, and glaze in the colors that you want.

Art Portfolio Workshop & Follow-up Consultation

The Arts Council is offering Art Portfolio Workshop & Follow-up Consultation sessions taught by Susan J. Russell to help high school students compile an art portfolio for college admission and for local/private scholarships.

    Art Portfolio Workshop: Learn how to assemble your portfolio and get ready for the Young Artist of Snohomish County College Art Scholarship and the Scholastic Art Portfolio Awards.

    Follow-up Consultation: Students can meet one on one with Susan Russell to look over their body of work and discuss what still needs to be done to make their portfolio ready for college scholarship consideration.
