2008/2009
SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR

September - June, Outreach Suitcases are available for classroom use and contain art objects that students may handle and examine, a teaching guide, slides/transparencies, and lesson plans. Topics include Africa, Book Arts, China, Cross-Cultural Games, India, Japan, Korea, Modern Art, Northwest Coast Native American & Philippines.

Oct. 24-25, Exploring Math through the Arts Teacher Workshop, Fri. 5-8:30 pm, Sat. 9-5 pm. Integrating Native American Arts across the Curriculum Teacher Workshop, Fri. 5-8:30 pm, Sat. 9-5 pm. Available for SPU credit/clock hours & Everett SD clock hours.

Nov. 6, 6-8 pm,Scholastic Art Online Training for teachers interested in submitting work in the 2009 Regional Scholastic Art Exhibit.

Nov. 13, 6-8:30 pm Art Docent Fair: Artists Influenced by Math will provide Art Docents with projects that can be taken back to the classroom. Each instructor will focus on a different artist whose work was influenced by math concepts while integrating the elements of art.

Jan. 10, 9-11:30 am Shrink-wrap Workshop for teachers submitting work in the Regional Scholastic Art Show.

Jan. 13, 2–5 pm Scholastic Art Entry Day for Snohomish County teachers submitting artwork, Grades 7-12.

Jan. 15, 5 pm Portfolio deadline for the Susan Jane Russell Art Scholarship & Scholastic Art Portfolios.

Feb. 17, 5-9 pm Regional Scholastic Art Exhibit, Reception & Ceremony to honor local student artists, Awards Ceremony at 6:30 pm.

Feb. 16–22 Regional Scholastic Art Exhibit opens to the public, Mon., 10-5; Tues., 10-9; Wed.–Thurs., 10-8; & Fri., 10-5; Sat.-Sun., 11-4.

April 15, 22, 29, & May 6, 6-8:30 pm Art How2’s 2009 classes look at Introducing Color in the Classroom. Series offered for SPU credit/clock hours or Everett SD clock hours.

April 15, 5 pm deadline, Black & White Photography Contest entries due for Snohomish County 9-12 grade students.

April 23–May 21 Black & White Photography Contest Exhibit features all entries including duplicates of the winning photographs at the Future of Flight, 8415 Paine Field Blvd., Mukilteo. Hours are 8:30 am-5:30 pm, 7 days a week.

April 30-May 16 Black & White Photography Contest Winning Entries Exhibit opens to the public, April 30, at the Gallery Store in the Historic Monte Cristo, 1507 Wall Street, Everett. Mon.-Fri., 10-5 & Sat. 11-4 pm; Awards Ceremony on May 7, 6:00 pm.

May 7-June 25 AEA The Mathematics of Art Exhibit featuring artists’ works that apply math skills in the creation of an art product such as quilts, collages, patterned prints, perspective drawings, sculptures, tessellations and more. Opening reception May 7, 5-8 pm.

May 11–22: AEA The Mathematics of Art Field Trips include 75 minute sessions consisting of a docent led tour, artists in action, and a hands-on activity.
